Weddings are an extension of your love and commitment to each other and your families. We all like to think that we can relax and enjoy one of the most important days of our lives. Apparently, this is not as simple as it may at first appear.
The biggest impact on the potential enjoyment of our wedding day is time (or the lack of it) and stress. Everywhere you turn, you are the centre of attention, the reason for your friends and family travelling from all over the world to spend time in the celebration of your love and commitment to each other. I know of couples that didn’t even get to eat their wedding feast – just not enough time…
So what can we do to minimise our stress and maximise our time and head space to allow us to ‘smell the roses’ on a day we have planned and organised over an extended period. All that work seems to culminate in the blink of an eye. What pressure!
For all of my clients, I recommend attending to all the formal functions of the wedding reception as early as possible. Here are my suggestions.
- When you make your ‘grand entrance’ walk straight to your cake and cut it.
- If you have entertainment booked, leave the cake and move to the dance floor.
- Have your entertainment do a 3 song set includes Bridal Dance and two wind down songs
- Take your seat for entree
- When you’ve finished entree go straight to speeches
This means that by the time the main course hits your table, the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy unencumbered.
By following these simple steps, you can eliminate most of the formality from the rest of your evening, buying back precious time and head space. Time to mingle, dance, drink and be merry, with no pressure from the traditions distracting your every turn.
